Around the World in 80 Days, 1956

Stupefyingly slow in places, this version of Around the World in 80 Days is a long movie full of long scenes unrelated to the plot or characters. Those characters, and perforce the audience, look down from the balloon at the passing scenery, then watch some Spanish dancing, then watch a bull fight, then look out the train window at the elephants, and then at the monkeys. The actors, pros that they are, manage to act interested for a surprisingly long time, but it’s too much to ask of us amateurs in the audience. The many cameos are somewhat amusing, but the movie is too long to use for a Spot Sinatra party game. Not recommended.
