    1. It wouldn’t surprise me. Things like that often have unintended consequences. Buying your eggs from a local farmer probably works. On a larger scale, something like a co-op might help coffee growers. What would really help is honest government, independent judges, and a competitive free market. Farmers seem often to face a situation in which they have to buy their fertilizer and other inputs at monopolistic prices, then have to sell their crops at competitive prices. I expect a lot of the coffee growers’ problems come from inept government intervention, and endemic bribery and extortion. But, I don’t really know anything about it, so I may be wrong.

        Gotta have those before education and networking will do you much good– otherwise you risk tall weed syndrome.
