Coal!

I knew it!

It’s hard to take these people seriously. “World temperatures did not rise from 1998 to 2008“? I thought that was denialist propaganda funded by Big Oil. Now they tell me that “sulphur emissions, from coal-fueled growth in Asia was responsible for the cooling effect.” So; we could have been burning high-sulfur coal in the US, saving jobs, saving a boat load of borrowed money, and saving the planet, exactly like the best and brightest told us, except we forgot it was Opposite Day!

Honestly, I don’t think climate scientists understand the climate any better than economists understand the economy. Alan Greenspan says there’s ‘No Evidence’ the Federal Reserve Stimulus ‘Worked’. Probably that’s because of the sun spot cycle and the solar minimum and stuff.

I can imagine a remake of The Graduate in which a drunken Texas energy baron beckons a young man over and whispers to him “Coal!

  1. I love the part where the study says, “The post 1970 period of warming, which constitutes a significant portion of the increase in global surface temperature since the mid 20th century, is driven by efforts to reduce air pollution.”

But what’s better is that a few sentences later, they end the article with, “‘Long term warming will continue unless emissions are reduced,’ said Peter Stott, head of climate monitoring at Britain’s Met Office.”

    1. The temperature could fall for ten years, and as we shoveled snow in May he would say the same. After his generation dies off, the younger generation of experts will warn of a coming ice age – unless emissions are reduced.
