If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan.

  • Nobody is being denied coverage.
  • President Obama never said that.
  • It wasn’t a lie.
  • All politicians lie.
  • Everyone knew at the time it was a lie, so it doesn’t count.
  • The American people aren’t able to understand the nuanced complexity of healthcare.
  • He told you that for your own good.
  • It’s not a lie, because it would have been true if the facts were different.*
  • Bush lied!
  • Shut up, you racist!

Really, in 2013 it’s comforting that this is an issue. It means a politically significant number of people still know lying is wrong. The Democrats who must run for office in the next election realize it’s politically necessary to placate these naive dopes, or at least distract them.

  1. There is not much in this whole mess that is comforting. Watching the daily contortions until the truth becomes meaningless has even moved beyond astonishing and dumbfounding into depressing territory. I just want to ostrich until this all goes away but I’m pretty sure it won’t go away ever. Too many people with too much ego making too much money. And if you aren’t in an approved victim class the media will never tell your story without mitigating it so that the real villains are never pointed out.

    1. I’d like to reply with something hopeful, but nothing at the national level looks positive. The best thing I can say is, Christmas is coming.
