Christ is risen!

And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

    1. Happy Easter!

I’d always wondered why the “Messiah” had shifted to Christmas, rather than the Paschal season. Although I get the thrust of the argument in the linked article, I think it takes some creative counting to get three holiday days for Easter, while longer for Christmas. I suppose if you count Holy Saturday and Easter Monday as days off you get three, but that’s giving Easter season short shrift. For Christmastide you have to count Christmas, Boxing Day (since this seems based on the UK model), as well as New Year’s Eve and Hogmonay. That’s only four, and split by a week. If the marketers had been all that smart they would have used the entirety of the Paschal season right up until Pentecost.

      1. Having thought about this maybe a bit more than is warranted, it seems that it’s like Istanbul instead of Constantinople – people just liked it better that way – at least for now.

        1. You’re probably spot on. Still, I’d like to think it’s because Easter tends to get short shrift in the music department; we don’t have Easter carols, after all.
